An shooting at Charlotte’s Northlake Mall has left one dead on Christmas Eve. According to The Charlotte Observer, it has not yet been made clear who fired the fatal shot.
Authorities say an argument between two groups of people began inside the mall and the shooting occurred at Journey’s on the lower level of the mall. Shauntelle Hamrick, the manager of the Journeys shoe store told CNN that a group of people “ganged up” on a man and during a fight, someone pulled a gun and a friend of the man was shot.
Off-duty police officers confronted the gunman and told him to drop his weapon, according to witnesses. When he did not, officers shot the gunman. “Pow, pow, pow, pow,” eight or nine in all,” said Nicole Kirkpatrick who worked at nearby Dicks Sporting Goods. “I think he emptied a clip — whatever is in a clip.”
The shooter was pronounced dead on the scene. Some reports are identifying the deceased as a local rapper by the name of “Donkey Cartel”. Medics also treated someone with a leg wound, a pregnant woman who had gone into labor and another patient who had an asthma attack. No officers were injured.
