Former Bad Boy member Shyne is ironing out the specific details of his relationship with Diddy following the chaotic 1999 nightclub shooting. In the latest episode of Drink Champs, Shyne lets viewers in on what really led up to the blow up in their relationship.
He says, “I don’t really blame that on him now as much as I did then.” Shyne was in jail from 2001 to 2009 for his dealings in the nightclub shooting that involved his former boss, Diddy.
The shooting led to a nearly 10-year sentence for his protege, but Diddy ended up walking away free.
Apparently police found a stolen gun in a vehicle Diddy and then-girlfriend, J. Lo were traveling in. They were stopped after a triple Manhattan nightclub shooting occurred earlier in the morning. However, charges were dropped pretty quick.
Shyne explains why he was upset with Diddy during the time, but admits he was more so upset with the lawyers. He says, “Because I did go through a stage of bitterness. But in retrospect, I blame it more on the lawyers that were advising him. Because his lawyers were there to secure a ‘not guilty’ verdict by any means.”
He explains their differences in upbringings prepped them for different results. Shyne says, “He’s about to lose everything. I’m about to lose everything. I’m from that though. Diddy is a musician, but he wasn’t from that. So his response shouldn’t be expected to be my response.” After everything fell apart, Shyne says Diddy did apologize to him.
“He said, ‘I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have never listened to those lawyers.’ I forgave him. It was traumatic. I would forgive him and then you might hear me a few months later going in on him. That was over a decade ago and I was in a different space then.”
Shyne turned his life around after serving his prison time. He was elected as the Leader of the Opposition at the House of Representatives in Belize in 2020. Diddy was a big help in him running for office.
