Bruno Mars and Anderson.Paak came together to create Silk Sonic and won the hearts of many. But in a surprising twist, the duo has decided to withdraw their critically acclaimed album from the 2023 Grammy Awards.
“An Evening With Silk Sonic” debuted with lead single “Leave the Door Open,” which was an immediate hit record. They’ve already won four Grammy Awards back in April for song of the year, record of the year, best R&B song, and best R&B performance. However, since the album did not release until November 2021, it would still be eligible for nominations in the 2023 awards. Despite a highly likely Album of the Year win, the group has humbly bowed out of the running.
“Andy and I, and everyone that worked on this project, won the moment the world responded to the first single, ‘Leave the Door Open.’ Everything else was just icing on the cake,” Mars shared in a statement.
The move comes as Album of the Year debates has been a daily social media occurrence. Many are looking forward to seeing if Beyonce’s “Renaissance” will take home the night’s top prize. Adele’s “30” will also face off with her friend and fellow artists for the prestigious Grammy. Despite who may be the winner, it most definitely will not be Silk Sonic, but the duo is 100% good with that.
“We hope we can celebrate with everyone on a great year of music and partake in the party,” Bruno added.
