Simone Biles has achieved yet another milestone!
During the US Gymnastics Championships in San Jose, California, on Sunday, Biles secured her unprecedented eighth U.S. all-around title. Biles surpassed Alfred Jochim’s longstanding record of seven all-around golds, a milestone established 90 years ago in 1933. Additionally, at the age of 26, Biles made history as the oldest female competitor to clinch victory in this event. Her remarkable performance placed her 3.9 points ahead of 21-year-old Shilese Jones, who secured the silver medal.
Over the course of this weekend in San Jose, Biles’ experience has been truly remarkable, especially considering she was grappling with the challenge of what’s referred to as the “twisties” in gymnastics. This term describes a mental obstacle that gymnasts face, wherein they struggle to accurately position themselves midair during routines. This phenomenon not only poses a clear danger but also serves as a significant impediment.

Biles displayed no signs of grappling with such challenges as she effortlessly navigated her way through the competition on both Friday and Sunday. A distinct indicator of her regained confidence materialized when she executed a Yurchenko double pike during her vault routine. The culmination of her achievements was witnessed during a floor routine that earned her a score of 15.400, securing her the coveted title of all-around champion.
“I’ve been doing it for so long. I feel like I don’t think about numbers, I think about my performance. I think overall I hit eight for eight, I guess it’s a lucky number this year,” Biles said.
