Talk about a comeback! Simone Biles has set a new record, becoming the first woman to win all five gold medals at the National Gymnastics Championship since Dominique Dawes in 1994.⠀
The four-time Rio Olympic gold medalist won her record fifth U.S. all-around title, in only the second meet since her comeback.
“I knew I was capable of [scoring this well], but I kind of thought I was going to be a nervous wreck and maybe fall apart. Going into these events, I know I kept telling my family like I don’t know if I’m going to be able to calm myself down the way I did before and handle the nerves, but so far, so good.” She told NBC Sports.
Biles took a 14-month hiatus after her win in #Rio. She returned to training last November with new coaches Cecile and Laurent Landi and began competitions three weeks ago, winning the #USClassic with an uneven bar fall.
At 21, she is the first non-teen to win the U.S. women’s all-around since 1971, according to gymnastic stats.
