Olympic gymnast Simone Biles revealed that she initially decided to shoot her shot in her now-boyfriend’s DMs just as the coronavirus pandemic was ramping up.
Biles, 24, opened up about how it went down with NFL player Jonathan Owens, 25, in the July issue of Wall Street Journal digital magazine.
“He would say I slid into his DMs,” she told the outlet. “I saw him, and I was like, ‘Oh, he’s pretty cute,’ so I said hi…and then I saw that he was in the Houston area, so we started chatting a little bit, and then we went to hang out a week or two later.”
With a bit of help from family, the two finally made more serious plans. They had been communicating for a couple of weeks through FaceTime when Biles’ sister Adria grabbed her phone and asked Owens if he would like to join them on an upcoming trip to a lake house. The two brought their dogs on the trip, and they got along great.
Not long after, the family started inviting Owens over for family dinner once they resumed the tradition. He’s been by her side ever since.
The four-time gold medalist is set to compete with the United States gymnastics team in the upcoming Tokyo Games.
