Simone Biles Says She Put Herself First At Tokyo Olympics: “16-Year-Old Simone Would Never”

Simon Biles opened up about her run at Tokyo Olympics in a live Q & A on Instagram on Friday.

Biles was asked to describe a moment that marked her the most in her career, and she revealed that it was “2021” and “having the courage to take care & put myself first.”

“16 yr old Simone would never,” the 24-year-old gymnast told fans.

Biles was referring to her decision to remove herself from all but one event in the Summer Games due to a case of the “twisties,” a condition athletes suffer from that can cause them to lose air awareness and put them at risk for injury during landings.

Biles claimed that she withdrew from the intense competition to focus on her mental health, revealing to fans on social media that her “mind & body are simply not in sync.”
