Simone Biles‘s husband, Jonathan Owens, jumped to her defense after a Twitter user went viral claiming the gymnast was rude.
If you’re active on Twitter, you’ve likely encountered a tweet encouraging users to detail their worst encounters with celebrities. Earlier this week, Twitter user @ilekamays shared that Biles came into the makeup store where she worked and was incredibly rude to a coworker. The witness claims as Biles was checking out, the cashier expressed that her daughter was a fan and young gymnast and asked the Olympic gold medalist if she could take a photo with her. Biles allegedly replied, “Absolutely not. Your daughter is 4. She doesn’t even know me.”
“She complained to our manager she hated the feeling of people staring at her while shopping like she’s not f***ing Simone Biles. The store offered curbside, she declined. She was so rude to staff. We offered her help (as we do with everyone), and she said, “Do I look dumb?” @ilekamays wrote.
The employee claimed that Owens was actually much more pleasant and quietly apologized on Biles’ behalf. However, the Green Bay Packers star said the entire story was fabricated for likes.
“It’s okay for her to deny a picture. People don’t understand sometimes you just want to shop in peace; if she stops and takes one picture, people will just keep following her and won’t leave us alone,” Owens tweeted.
He followed up with another tweet, further defending Biles, who he says doesn’t speak to people that way. Owens shared a screenshot of the original tweet for context to his followers, letting it be known that he has his wife’s back against the storyteller.
“Why would you try to make her look like that? She’s the sweetest person in the world. I just couldn’t let this go, especially if I was there like you said I was,” he added.
Here’s what was said for context since their tweets are private now, I’m not going for that, i don’t play bout my baby 🤞🏽 pic.twitter.com/s4y0DgjvD3

And another thing, I’ve never heard her talk to someone like that, especially to someone who asked her for a picture, like why would you try to make her look like that, she’s sweetest person in the world. I just couldn’t let this go, especially if i was there like you said i was https://t.co/ENSDaV28jf

Spreading lies on the internet is crazy, it’s okay for her to deny a picture. People don’t understand sometimes you just want to shop in peace, if she stops and takes one picture people will just keep following her and won’t leave us alone. https://t.co/ENSDaV28jf

Whether it was a lie or not, the young lady probably didn’t think her tweet would take off in such a way.
