In May of 2016, Sinead O’Conner accused Arsenio Hall of supplying drugs to late pop icon, Prince. The singer took to Facebook to accuse the former talk show host of playing a part in the legend’s untimely death.
“Two words for the DEA investigating where Prince got his drugs over the decades… Arsenio Hall (aka Prince’s and Eddie Murphy’s b*tch). Anyone imagining Prince was not a long time hard drug user is living in cloud cuckoo land. Arsenio I’ve reported you to the Carver County Sheriff’s office,” she wrote, adding an additional allegation against the comedian that he drugged her as well.
Hall immediately denied the controversial claims and filed a $5 million defamation lawsuit against O’Connor.
Since then, the feud between the two has seemingly been settled. On Wednesday, the singer retracted her allegations and apologized to the comedian for the accusations she brought up against him.
“I apologize for my Facebook post about Arsenio Hall to the extent that anyone thought I was accusing him of acting as Prince’s drug dealer and supplying him with illegal hard drugs, or insinuating that Arsenio had something to do with Prince’s death,” O’Connor said in a statement.
“I sincerely apologize because those statements would be false, and I retract them unequivocally,” she added.
After O’Connor’s apology and retraction, Hall reportedly dropped the defamation suit. The comedian’s publicist released a statement in response to O’Connor’s apology, revealing the dismissal of the suit.
“Arsenio’s lawyers have confirmed that now that Arsenio’s reputation has been restored by Sinead’s unequivocal retraction and apology, the lawsuit will be dismissed,” the statement said.
