“Sister Act 3” is on its way, and Whoopi Goldberg is set to star in and produce the film along with Tyler Perry.
People reports “Sister Act 3” is currently in production; Goldberg will return as Deloris Van Cartier. Walt Disney Studios Motion Picture Production President Sean Bailey announced the big news on Thursday during Disney Investor Day.
The film will make its debut on Disney+. During an earlier appearance on “The Late Show with James Corden,” Goldberg mentioned that she was trying to get the cast back together for a third installment of the movie. “For a long time, they kept saying no one wanted to see it,” Goldberg said. “And then quite recently, it turns out, that may not be true. People may want to see it.”
She continued, “So, we’re working diligently to try to figure out how to get the gang together and come back.” She added that the first two films were “fun and it feels good.”
“And you know, nobody’s mad,” she continued. “It’s just, listen — bad singing, great singing, OK singing, and then nuns. What’s better than that?”
For those who haven’t seen the film: the story centers around a lounge singer who ends up becoming a nun to disguise herself as she hides under a witness protection program to evade a pimp. The first “Sister Act” became an instant hit and classic, earning over $230 million at the box office.
