A six-month-old baby is fighting for his life after his mother dropped him from a second-floor balcony.
While not much information has been released, what is known is that the incident took place shortly before 5:00 a.m. Thursday morning. A Brooklyn woman frantically woke up her husband, screaming that she’d dropped the baby. When police arrived at the apartment unit at 1870 51st Street in the Mapleton neighborhood, they located the infant in grave condition. He was rushed to Maimonides Medical Center in critical but stable condition.
Both parents were questioned by investigators. The father confirmed that he didn’t witness the incident. A medical professional who met with the mother at the home hinted that a mental episode could have caused the incident. However, they did not go so far as to suggest the baby was tossed.
“People just snap. She’s being psychologically evaluated,” the medical professional shared after leaving the apartment Thursday night.
A neighbor said the family were great people and described the woman as a “good mother” to her three children.
No charges have been filed at this time.
