Six People Injured After Gunfire Breaks Out During ‘Skip Day’ Celebration In SC

Six people were injured when gunfire broke out during a senior skip day celebration attended by hundreds of high school students on a South Carolina beach.

Police were already in the area responding to reports of several fights when the shooting began around 5:20 p.m. on Friday. Isle of Palms Police Chief Kevin Cornett said five victims were high teenagers, and one person was a woman in her “mid-30s or early 40s.”

Injured parties were taken to the Medical University of South Carolina and treated for non-life-threatening injuries. Five victims have since been released, while one remains hospitalized in stable condition.

Cornett said that multiple weapons were recovered from the scene but did not indicate if they were used in the shooting.

“We have weapons recovered, but we cannot say that they were the weapons involved in the incident,” said Cornett.

Two people were taken into custody, a juvenile who is not being named and 18-year-old Shawn Alexander Martin-Goods, but police would not say if they were involved in the shooting. Both are facing gun charges.

Cornett said that despite having two people in custody, police are unsure if the actual shooter was detained.
