First-grader Ally Rednour was dragged 1,000 feet after stepping off a Jefferson County Public School bus back in May 2015.
The then six-year-old child ended up with severe abrasions to 12% of her body and had to undergo several surgeries after the bus doors closed on her backpack due to the driver’s negligence.
Surveillance video showed Melinda Sanders, the school bus driver, was completely oblivious as she failed to notice what was happening to Ally and drove off. The horrific incident led to Sanders’s termination.
Now Sanders is finally in court facing a civil lawsuit brought by Rednour’s mother, who is seeking unspecified damages.
The footage is expected to be shown in court during the civil trial. The clip shows the moments Ally got off the bus and the doors closing on her backpack while she is wearing it.
As Sanders drives away, Ally can be seen desperately trying to run alongside the bus before she is ultimately dragged.
Sanders was so distracted by a student standing over her and talking to her and other children on the bus that she failed to notice what was going outside of the door. She wasn’t made aware until another vehicle was heard honking its horn, finally got her attention.
