Detroit rapper Skilla Baby was nearly killed after a shooting in late May that turned into a full-blown crash scene.
Now, after nearly two weeks of investigating, police say they’ve got the person responsible. On May 22, shots were fired at an SUV in Redford Township, near Eight Mile and Beech Daly.
Skilla Baby, whose real name is Trevon Gardner, was behind the wheel when bullets tore through the vehicle, striking him multiple times. He ended up crashing shortly after the ambush and was hospitalized with serious injuries.
Investigators say they found a number of shell casings scattered around the area and confirmed the SUV was riddled with bullet holes. The case quickly gained momentum with help from several agencies, including Detroit Police, the ATF, and a local special operations unit.
Thanks to that collaboration, a suspect vehicle was tracked down. The registered owner was taken into custody in Detroit this week. Authorities also executed a search warrant at his home, where they found a firearm they believe was used in the shooting.
At this time, felony charges related to weapons violations are expected to be filed, pending a review from the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office.
Skilla Baby is reportedly recovering, and police haven’t released any names or motives.
