The hip-hop legend is gearing up to drop “Victory,” his first album since 1999’s “The Art of Storytelling.” Executive-produced alongside actor Idris Elba, the project is also a visual experience. Set to be released June 13th, it’s accompanied by a 30-minute film directed by Meji Alabi, who worked on Beyoncé’s “Black Is King.” The visual premiere kicks off June 7th at SXSW London, followed by a showing at the Tribeca Festival.
Rick recorded “Victory” across London and France, while the film spans locations in the U.S., the U.K., and Africa. The project also boasts star-studded features from Nas, Giggs, and Estelle.
In a statement, Slick Rick shared, “’Victory’ is all about perseverance, storytelling, imagination, and evolution. A visual blend of art and heart, a sonic journey that reflects where I’ve been and where I’m going. ‘Victory’ isn’t just music; it’s a bold, in-your-face statement, showcasing British artistry at its finest!”
Elba added, “Working with Slick Rick…back home in the UK, and then offering the world of hip-hop something amazing has been a blessing. It’s literally a gift!”
