Smash Or Pass? Burger King Thailand Introduces “Real Cheese Burger” With 20 Slices Of Cheese

Burger King in Thailand is raising a few eyebrows after introducing a burger with only cheese and no meat. 

The new sandwich dubbed the “Real Cheese Burger,” is missing the flame-grilled beef patty that most Whoppers are known for.  Instead, the chain has decided to go meatless, replacing it with 20 slices of American cheese. The odd sandwich includes no other ingredients. That means customers won’t enjoy any pickles, tomatoes, lettuce, onions, ketchup, mayonnaise, or mustard on their “Real Cheese Burger.” Instead, they’ll only be met with the sesame seed bun and cheese in the middle. 

Visitors and locals have documented the interesting handheld snack across social media. Traveler, and writer Richard Barrow shared a close-up photo of the sandwich, showing the simple design of the “Real Cheese Burger.” While he frequently details his foodie adventures throughout Thailand, Barrow admitted that the new delicacy was challenging to finish.

“A trend in #Thailand is to put cheese on literally everything. Now Burger King has joined in with the Real Cheese Burger. Though I think they forgot the meat,” he tweeted. “I love cheese, but I struggled eating even half of this “burger.” Maybe I should grill the other half? What do you think?”

TikTokers have gotten ahold of the meal, with many viral video reviews of the burger. While many of them are recorded in Thai, the sheer amount is a testament to the burger’s growing popularity. It’s unclear if Burger King in the U.S. is considering the “Real Cheese Burger,” but hopefully, this is simply a short-lived experiment.
