Saturday Night Live is known to make jokes about anything, so it’s no surprise that they, too, are speaking on what just about everyone else is speaking on, the Will Smith and Chris Rock altercation.
Chris Redd played Smith to a T on Saturday’s episode. He’s seen jawboning with a fan right before hearing the “G.I. Jane” joke.
The skit mirrored the incident almost identically. It mimicked Smith laughing at the comedian’s joke before becoming enraged and then tearfully taking the stage to accept his speech.
The skit got even funnier when “Will” comments on “Red Table Talk.”
Smith apologized to the Academy and his fellow nominees but not to Rock during his acceptance speech for the Best Actor award. He later followed up with an apology to Rock on Instagram on Monday.
Atlanta rapper Gunna was the musical guest Saturday, and Jerrod Carmichael hosted the episode. He had a hilarious monologue where he also shared his own jokes on the Smith-Rock Oscars slap.
On “Weekend Update,” Michael Che and Colin Jost got a few laughs in as well, saying, “Intelligence officials are saying that Vladimir Putin is being misinformed by his advisors about how badly the Russian military is performing in Ukraine, which is kind of like Will Smith’s agent telling him, ‘You crushed it at the Oscars!'”
And Jostdidn’t stop there, he went on to say Will’s actions were “disgraceful” because it sets “a terrible precedent for having to defend your wife at awards shows.”
Che made note of part of Smith’s acceptance speech after landing the award for Best Actor for his role in “King Richard” when he said, “Love will make you do crazy things.”
Smith will now join others who have been booted by the Academy, which include Bull Cosby, Roman Polanski, and Harvey Weinstein, a group of men Colin calls “Bad Boys For Life.”
And Che took the time to point out that just maybe Rock had no idea Jada Pinkett Smith had alopecia, “Can we stop pretending everybody knew Jada had alopecia? I mean, as much as we’ve heard about Jada and Will’s personal lives, you can’t expect us to retain everything. It’s like Kanye, ‘Don’t act like y’all don’t know I had psoriasis!'”
