Saturday Night Live‘s Michael Che took to Instagram to share that his grandmother passed away on Sunday as a result of coronavirus related complications.
“I’m obviously very hurt and angry that she had to go through all that pain alone. But I’m also happy that she’s not in pain anymore,” the 36-year-old comedian wrote in a statement shared on Instagram with the caption,” I swear, I’m fine.”
While he did not go into specifics surrounding her death, one can only assume that the current social distancing orders in place prevented Che and his family from being by his grandmother’s side.
Che went on to say, “I also feel guilty for feeling happy. Basically, the whole gamut of complex feelings everybody else has for losing someone very close and special.”
Sadly, this is not uncommon during these dark times. Those who are hospitalized for coronavirus are kept in isolation, meaning that if they pass away, they will likely die alone.
