Katie Rich, a writer for Saturday Night Live, found herself in hot water after a tweet she posted mocking 10 year old Barron Trump.
The tweet was posted during the inauguration ceremony on Friday and read, “Barron will be this country’s first homeschool shooter.” After a great deal of backlash, Rich deleted the tweet and deactivated her Twitter account. However, that wasn’t the last she would hear about it.
Reportedly SNL acted swiftly and suspended Katie Rich indefinitely over her tweet. SNL and NBC did not comment on the suspension.
On Monday, Rich reactivated her Twitter account and sent out a public apology. “I sincerely apologize for the insensitive tweet,” said Rich. “I deeply regret my actions & offensive words. It was inexcusable & I’m so sorry.”
Katie Rich was hired to join Saturday Night Live at the end of 2013 and wrote for the “Weekend Update” news segment of the show. She is one of around 30 writers listed in SNL’s credits.
