It looks like Snoop Dogg will always be welcome in the United Kingdom.
In a recent interview with DJ Whoo Kid, the Death Row Record owner opened up about how a very special someone defended him to the press back in the day. The Queen herself, Queen Elizabeth II.Â
Apparently, there were calls to ban the rapper from the country back in the 90s following the murder case he was eventually acquitted for.
“They kicked me out the UK. ‘Kick this evil bastard out.'” The 1994 Daily Star headline read “Kick this evil bastard out,” once the press learned of his ongoing legal woes. UK residents wanted Snoop Dogg out of the country while performing at shows. They even called on officials, which is when the Queen stepped in.Â
“But guess who came to my defense? Just take a guess. The Queen, n***a. The Queen said, ‘This man has done nothing in our country. He can come,'” he explained. “The Queen, n***a, bow down. When the Queen speaks, bow down. That’s Harry and Williams’ grandmother, you dig? You think you think they weren’t there saying, ‘Grandma, please let him in, grandma. He’s OK. We love his music.’ ‘You know Harry, I’ll let him in for you. He’s not so bad after all, and he’s quite cute.’… The Queen, that’s my gal.”
But the Queen and Snoop seem to be very cool as she’s expressed her support for his music, saying her grandbabies, Prince William and Prince Harry love his music.Â
“When they tried to kick me out of England, the Queen made a comment that her grandbabies loved Snoop Doggy Dogg, and he had done no wrong in Britain, so she gave me permission to be in the country.”Â
