A Snoop Dogg life story seems closer than ever following news of the rapper inking a new deal with NBCUniversal and his Death Row Pictures.
The multi-year partnership will have Snoop and Death Row Pictures collaborating with the studio on a variety of projects spanning film, television, sports, and streaming. Death Row is already hard at work on a Snoop biopic, with Joe Robert Cole set to write and Brian Grazer producing.
NBCUniversal chairman Donna Langley expressed her excitement, saying, “There’s only one Snoop, and we’re so excited for him to join our unbelievable roster of creative partners.”
Snoop also shared his pride in the deal, stating, “Not everyone has the courage and vision to see what Death Row Pictures can bring to the table, but Donna and the NBCUniversal team have always understood, which is why I am proud to call NBCUniversal my new home. The Dogg has officially moved into the neighborhood, ya dig?”
While details regarding casting in the biopic are far off, several Black actors would do the role of Snoop Dogg justice:
Jonathan Daviss
This 25-year-old rising star is most widely known for his role in the Netflix drama series “Outer Banks.” He also appeared in the film “Do Revenge,” also for the streamer.
Asante Blackk
The 23-year-old has gained attention for his portrayal of Kevin Richardson in the hit Netflix series “When They See Us,” documenting the case of the Central Park 5. He was also praised for his starring role as Malik Hodges in NBC’s “This Is Us.”
Jahi Di’Allo Winston
Another upcoming incomparable talent, this 21-year-old has appeared in several notable films such as “The Upside,” “Proud Mary,” and “Queen & Slim.” He is also set to star in the forthcoming film “Government Cheese.” With such a range, Jahi could easily embody the Doggfather in his early days with Death Row.
Micheal Ward
This Jamaican-born 27-year-old has been quickly building an impressive resume. His films include “Blue Story” and “The Old Guard.” While on television, Ward appeared as Jamie in the Netflix show “Top Boy” and “The A List.” Ward was awarded the 2020 BAFTA Rising Star Award. The following year, he was nominated for the BAFTA Award for Best Supporting Actor for his role in the BBC’s “Small Axe.”
