Tyrese’s attempt to channel Marvin Gaye during his national anthem performance at the Rams vs. Cowboys preseason game on Sunday has people talking.
Social media clowned the singer for trying to recreate Gaye’s iconic 1974 rendition when he sang for the Cowboys and the Oakland Raiders.
Fans couldn’t resist roasting Tyrese, criticizing his singing and questioning why he chose such an iconic performance to imitate. Meanwhile, some are speculating that a biopic might be in the works.
But we all know Tyrese wasn’t about to keep quiet.
He took to Instagram to clap back, saying, “Thank you…… You’re always welcome here….. respectfully I don’t really know if I agree…. Few bad notes? Mheeeee that’s an open mic for you….. God is the greatest we live in the best county in the world and I really really tried #MarvinGayeAnthemLALakers #GreatWesterForum83 #TyreseAnthem2024SofiStadiumLARams.”
Doubling down on his choice, he added, “Teddy-Marvin-Donnie-Wonder-Gibson is my name.. Smile… it’s a viiiiiibbbbeeeee!!!!!!!”
It’s clear Tyrese was feeling himself despite the backlash, but social media remains divided. Some appreciated the effort, while others think he should’ve left Marvin Gaye’s legacy alone.
