Summer Wheaton’s influencer lifestyle took a dark turn after a tragic drunk driving crash that left a man dead.
The 33-year-old pleaded not guilty this week to charges tied to the crash after leaving a star-studded Fourth of July party at Nobu in Malibu.
Authorities say she was speeding at 81 mph in a 45 mph zone when her white Mercedes veered into oncoming traffic and slammed head-on into a Cadillac. The driver, 44-year-old Martin Okeke, was killed, while his passenger survived with injuries.
Wheaton, who went quiet on social media after the crash, was later charged with gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, DUI, and causing great bodily injury. At her arraignment, she stayed silent as her attorney entered not guilty pleas.
The judge ordered her to wear a SCRAM alcohol-monitoring bracelet within 48 hours, despite her lawyer arguing against it. She remains free on $230,000 bail and is due back in court on April 30.
Okeke’s family has since filed a wrongful death lawsuit against Wheaton and Nobu, claiming she was “severely intoxicated” at the time of the crash.
So far, the family’s GoFundMe has raised less than $9,000 of its $50,000 goal.
