A 4.8-magnitude earthquake struck New Jersey on Friday morning, causing tremors in New York and other surrounding states on the East Coast.
The tremors evoked memories of the August 23, 2011, earthquake that startled the Baltimore area and tens of millions of people from Georgia to Canada, as it remains the most powerful quake to strike the East Coast since World War II, registering a magnitude of 5.8.
Several social media users turned to X to confirm that they weren’t alone. Reports also emerged from Pennsylvania and Maryland of individuals who claimed to have felt the tremors.
