Will Smith and Martin Lawrence have reunited and revived the box office with their latest film, “Bad Boys: Ride or Die.” The fourth installment in the movie series hit theaters a few days ago, snagging the top spot by bringing in $56 million in the U.S. and another $48.6 million globally, totaling an impressive $104.6 million worldwide. This success follows weeks of low ticket sales in theaters, with films such as “The Garfield Movie” currently at $68.613 million and “The Watchers” racking in $7 million.
The film sees detectives Mike Lowery (Smith) and Marcus Burnett (Lawrence) join forces once again to take down corruption within their police department. Throughout the movie, viewers experience themes of brotherhood, romantic love, and family.
“At this point in my life, I need the movies to be about something,” Smith said. “Part of why Bad Boys works for people is that at the heart of it is friendship. At the heart of it is love. At the heart of it is a relationship, and it’s the kind of relationship that we all wish we had, somebody that will ride or die with us and for us.”
The success of the film comes after Smith faced controversy for slapping Chris Rock onstage during the 2022 Oscars. Known as “the slap heard around the world,” Smith publicly confronted Rock for making a joke about his wife, Jada Pinkett-Smith’s hair loss from alopecia. While many critics blasted Smith for his actions, others were more forgiving. Nevertheless, with the success of “Bad Boys 4,” Smith has shown he can overcome negativity and continue to shine despite backlash.

Bad Boys 4 is a perfect movie.
It carefully handles like six characters,
talks about platonic soulmates between men,
destigmatizes anxiety attacks,
makes inside jokes for fans of the franchise,
has like four awesome action sequences,
and lets Martin be the star.

You see all the press Will and Martin are doing for Bad Boys 4? You know how long they have been professional entertainers? That’s why when I hear and watch artists pass up on press all the time it bothers me. You can’t just drop something and expect someone to buy into it.
