When news broke that Usher would receive the Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2024 BET Awards, fans knew they were in for a treat when it came to his tribute. Over the course of a few weeks following the announcement, social media users anticipated the show and shared their predictions on which artists would be performing in it.
However, to their surprise, the heartfelt moment included a lineup of all-female artists with Childish Gambino, also known as Danny Glover, kicking things off with his cover of Usher’s “U Don’t Have To Call.” The tribute was then followed up with Keke Palmer, Chloe Bailey, CoCo Jones, Latto, Tinashe, Marsha Ambrosius, Teyana Taylor, and Victoria Monet, performing some of the singer’s greatest hits such as “Good Kisser,” “Nice & Slow,” “Bad Girl,” “Superstar,” and “Yeah!.”
While the ladies did their thing and put on good performances, social media users couldn’t help but wonder why there weren’t any male R&B singers featured in the lineup. Many questioned if the men were available to take the stage, while some suggested that Usher, being the lady’s man that he is, probably requested only women to be a part of his tribute. Nevertheless, the moment had the internet buzzing and sparked some conversations. See what they had to say below:
Usher freak self probably wanted it to be all women now that I think about it 😭

Usher serenaded women all year at his tour, I kinda like the concept of flipping that and having female artists serenade him 🫣

This is a direct shot at all yall new male R&B singers! The ladies have to do a tribute to USHER because yall idiots can’t sing, can’t dance, don’t do nothing but sing love songs about hating women. I hate yall idiots.

A bunch of women getting to do a tribute to Usher should light a fire under the male R&B artist. The genre is dying b/c y’all drugged up, can’t dance & are mean to women.

(An all-female Usher tribute [outside of Gambino] is kinda genius— no shade.) #BETAwards pic.twitter.com/w0xMeWlKNh
