Ballerific Woman: Solange Knowles Becomes the First Black Woman to Compose Music For The New York City Ballet

Solange Knowles is set to compose an original score for the New York City Ballet, and she’s the first Black woman to ever do it.

When it comes to a bag, those Knowles women are in it—or creating it for themselves.

The “Cranes in the Sky” singer has been tapped to compose an original score for an upcoming ballet production at the New York City Ballet.

This will be the first time a Black woman and the second woman ever to compose a score for a New York City Ballet production.

A chamber ensemble will perform the composition, the New York Times reports. The production will have its premiere at the New York City Ballet’s annual Fashion Gala on Sept. 28.
