Instagram users are having way too much fun in the comment section since the app rolled out the use of GIFs to comment.
Over the last week, IG has quietly rolled out the feature. While not everyone is able to add GIFs on posts in their main feed, mostly every user can see them. Instagram has not announced when they expect everyone to have access to the GIFs, which are powered by GIPHY.
For those who do have access to this amusing function, they’ll now notice a GIF button where they’d typically write a comment. IG has loaded the GIF album with tons of moving clips that can be used in place of text. IG already allowed the use of the mini videos in Instagram Story’s and when sending messages. Social media fans wasted no time putting them to use, with the recent fallout between Blueface and Chris Brown prompting a string of reactions using only hilarious GIFs to respond.
Meta, who owns IG, has allowed GIFs in the comment section of Facebook for years now. The Messenger feature can also be linked to both platforms. Therefore, it was only a matter of time before Meta made another move to merge the apps further.
While it’s unclear if the feature is here to stay or still in its testing phase, no one appears to be disappointed just yet.
