Someone broke into a warehouse and stole toys meant for disadvantaged children.
I mean, we all know the story of “The Grinch Who Stole Christmas,” but we ain’t know y’all was really out here stealing toys from the kids. That’s what happened at a warehouse in Atlanta, Georgia. Wednesday morning, a huge hole was left after someone busted through a warehouse where thousands of dollars worth of gifts were stored.
“Sadly, our warehouse was broken into last night in the most aggressive of ways,” the nonprofit wrote on Facebook. “The loss of goods at this point of the season will be significant. The impact to the families yet to serve even more so. Our hearts are heavy.”
The gift-giving mission was put together by a nonprofit called the Empty Stocking Fund. There are no details on how many gifts were taken, the New York Post reports.
“It looks like a war zone on this side,” Manda Hunt, the organization’s executive director, told the newspaper. “It’s the craziest thing I’ve ever seen. I mean, that’s ambition. If you put that kind of energy toward good work, imagine what you could accomplish, right?”
Hunt said that the thief might be the same person who broke into some of their warehouses before. “We’ve had a couple of incidents during distribution,” Hunt told the newspaper. “It’s a busy time, families are waiting to get their gifts, and they would tell us that some guy just came up, jumped up and grabbed a bunch of gifts and walked off.”
In the meantime, the org is working to raise $25,000 to “get out as many more” holiday gift orders. “Around 4 am this morning, the Grinch attempted to steal Christmas by sledge-hammering a giant hole in our warehouse’s cinderblock wall and helping himself to bags and bags of items,” reads the fundraiser “But, with your help we will not let this horrible Grinch ruin anyone’s Christmas!” No arrests have been made.
