The son of former football player Rae Carruth, who nearly died when his father ordered a hit on him and his mother, is set to graduate from high school.
Chancellor Lee Adams will receive his diploma on June 5th. Adams’s mother, Cherica, was shot on November 16th, 1999, by a hitman that Carruth hired. Before slipping into a coma, Cherica was able to detail the frightening ordeal for investigators. She died on December 14th, 1999. The shooting left Chancellor permanently disabled. However, despite his challenges, Chancellor will walk across the stage to receive his diploma from Vance High School in Charlotte, North Carolina.
The stunning young man, who suffers from cerebral palsy and brain damage, requires a live-in caregiver. He will graduate from high school after six years, four of which were spent in the exceptional children’s high school program.
His maternal grandmother Saundra Adams, who raised him, said she is confident her daughter Cherica is beyond proud of her son’s biggest accomplishment. She does not believe Carruth is aware of his son’s graduation but hopes that word gets back to him.
“I’m hoping that someone will tell him about this great milestone that Chancellor [Lee] is reaching,” Saundra said. “And as always, I’m still open. Maybe we can have some communication.”
Chancellor said he is unsure of what he wants to do after graduation but is considering starting an online hat business with the support of his grandmother, who he calls “G-Mom.”
Congratulations Chancellor.
