Since the PlayStation 5 is in high demand and becoming increasingly more difficult to get, Sony is making more PlayStation 4’s.
According to Bloomberg, Sony originally had plans to discontinue the PS4 altogether once the PS5 stepped onto the scene. However, after seeing the craze around PS5s, which has resulted in a shortage, the company is now leaning on the older model to please gamers. Sony has instructed its manufacturing partners to make one million additional PS4 units through the end of 2022.
While many people are puzzled by Sony’s decision to build more PS4s rather than PS5s, the company has a legitimate reason for doing so. The much more advanced PS5 requires specialty chips. Due to the ongoing global chain supply issues, there is a shortage of global chips, which has impacted various aspects of gaming tech. Massive hoarding and reselling of the console has also been a major setback for those hoping to get a PS5.
The PlayStation 5 has become the fastest-selling gaming console in history but has fallen behind in sales due to the deficiency. The last reported restock at GameStop stores nationwide took place on December 17th. Since then, there hasn’t been much word on when more will be available.
A quick Google search revealed that several sites still have the PS5 listed for sale, such as StockX, QVC, and Walmart, but supplies are not guaranteed.
