If you miss the hit drama series the “Sopranos” you’re in luck, the story is coming back in a feature film.
New Line Cinema and Sopranos creator David Chase, have their first actor Alessandro Nivola to star as Dickey Moltisanti in “The Many Saints of Newark,” which will be the prequel to the popular HBO series.
According to Variety, in the new film Moltisanti is the deceased uncle of Tony Soprano, played by James Gandolfini, and father of Christopher Moltisanti, played by Michael Imperioli. In the show, the character never appears, as he was murdered prior to the drama’s timeline, but it is mentioned as someone who, along with Soprano’s father and Uncle Junior, helped spearhead their small gang into the New Jersey crime family that Soprano eventually heads.
The script will be written by Chase and Lawrence Konner, and will be directed by Alan Taylor. Chase will also act as producer. The film will take place during the Newark riots in the ‘60s, and some characters from the series are expected to be seen in the movie. More details will be announced soon.
