Tinder is great for a lot of things – finding a date for a Friday night, setting up a late night booty call, or even meeting the love of your life. But one girl found out the hard way that Tinder is not all fun and games. In fact, her story, which sounds like it came straight out of a scary movie, serves as a warning to be more careful when using the popular dating app.
A 20-year-old sorority girl from the University of Kansas alleges that she was kidnapped and beaten by a man that she met on Tinder. The incident occurred on April 12, after the man, 30-year-old Shane Steven Allen, picked her up for a date. The girl had gone out with Allen one time before, and the date was good enough that she agreed to go out with him again. On that Tuesday, he picked her up from her sorority house and took her to his trailer. Allen invited two friends over and they were all hanging out while she was getting some homework done. Things seemed fine up until the time that his friends left, and according to an arrest affidavit, that’s when Allen showed his true colors.
Allen angrily accused his date of flirting with one of his friends, and he began hitting her face until she fell to the ground. Once she was on the ground, he started to punch and kick her body. After he was done hitting her, the girl begged to be taken home but he refused, saying she “could not go home until the swelling around her eyes was reduced.”
For the next six days, he kept her locked up in his trailer and continued to beat her, strangle her, and threaten her life. She tried to escape once and he choked her until she passed out. After that incident, she stopped trying to escape because she was afraid he would kill her. The girl also alleges that Allen made her contact her friends via Facebook and tell them that she was okay.
The following Monday, Allen finally took her back home under the condition that she would not go to the police. Once she got back home, she was taken to the hospital where she was treated for two black eyes, bruises and swelling all over her head, face, and body, broken blood vessels in her eyes, and other injuries.
Allen has been arrested on four felony charges of battery and one felony charge of kidnapping. If convicted, he could face up to 32 years in prison.
Moral of the story: be careful how you swipe!
