When I heard the news that Phil Jackson would be returning to the NBA I could almost imagine a collective silence from basketball fans across the country. When I heard that he would not be involved with the Lakers organization, I realized that the build up of broken dreams and crushed spirits probably caused yesterday’s earthquake. Stranger things have happened.
Phil Jackson played his final game with the New York Knicks back on April 23, 1978. Today, he returns to the organization as the President of Basketball Operations with a long laundry list of things he wants to do to shape things up. Jackson is looking to make changes to the players, coach and even the Knicks front office. No one is safe and New York fans couldn’t be happier.
The Knicks will be holding a press conference for Phil Jackson today. I’m looking forward to seeing what is discussed.
