Sotheby’s has announced an online auction of exclusive sneakers, some of which have been signed and worn by today’s biggest stars.
The auction, known as Scarce Air, is an online sale consisting of nearly 50 items that include some of the world’s rarest shoes. The highest starting bid so far is $35,000, which is for the Nike Air Yeezy 2 “Mismatch” Sample Signed by Kanye West. Nike never produced the shoe, which makes it one of the most unique finds in the auction. The Nike Air Force 1 Entourage x Undefeated x Fukijama Gold, inspired by the HBO series, “Entourage” is another of the most sought-after sneakers among collectors. The striking shoe features a laser-etched design on metallic gold leather panels and black leather Nike Swooshes. The tongue and heel also contain unique UNDFTD graphics. Also included in the treasure trove of rare shoes are three pairs of Jordan IIIs, IXs, and XIs in a rare all-gold design. They have all been worn by Grammy Award-winning singer Usher.
Sotheby’s is conducting the action in collaboration with English Sole, a Chicago-based sneaker curating company that finds the world’s rarest sneakers.
Those wishing to place a bid on these prized sneakers can do so on Sothebys.com or the Sotheby’s app. Bidders are encouraged to pay close attention to their offers and will be notified if they win or are outbid on the auction catalog page, by email, and by smartphone notifications.
