It is with deep sadness that we mourn the passing of Sam Moore, whose voice, along with his partner Dave Prater, helped shape the sound of soul music. Moore, 89, passed away on Friday morning in Coral Gables, Florida, after complications from surgery.
His career began in the gospel tradition and took him to worldwide acclaim, earning him multiple honors, including induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1992. Along with Prater, Moore electrified audiences with unforgettable live shows. As a solo act, Moore has performed for several presidents including Barack Obama and Donald Trump.
Sam & Dave, hailed as “the greatest of all soul duos” by the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, blended the energy of gospel and rhythm & blues with their timeless hits such as “Soul Man,” “Hold On, I’m Coming,” and “You Don’t Know Like I Know.”
Sam leaves behind a vast musical legacy, remembered by fans and peers alike, including his wife, Joyce, and his several children.
