Soulja Boy does not bite his tongue when it comes to getting his respect, and now, he is voicing his opinion on being the true originator of TikTok.
The “Kiss Me Thru The Phone” rapper sat down with the It’s Tricky With Raquel Harper podcast recently, where he shared that his contribution to the culture is why TikTok is thriving today.
“I created TikTok! It wouldn’t be no TikTok if it wasn’t for Soulja Boy,” the expectant father joked. The 31-year-old then insisted he’s sure the CEO of TikTok is familiar with “Crank that Soulja Boy” and requested his 10 percent of the company.
He praised the platform for helping to push his latest hit record, “She Make It Clap.” The song sparked a wave of celebrities participating in the dance moves. Actress Gabrielle Union and singer Ciara also posted their take on the challenge. The attention drove the record to No. 1 on Billboard’s Top Triller U.S. chart, marking a comeback for the beloved rapper and influencer. Following the record’s success, he signed with Virgin Music Label.
Soulja Boy helped introduce the social media that we know today. He was the first rapper on YouTube and shaped the concept of “going viral.”
