Soulja Boy has been released from custody two days after his arrest in Los Angeles.
The rapper, born DeAndre Cortez Way, was taken into custody early Sunday morning in West Hollywood.
Officers conducting a traffic stop reported seeing a firearm inside the vehicle where Soulja Boy was riding as a passenger. Given his prior weapons convictions, he was booked on suspicion of being a felon in possession of a firearm.
By Tuesday afternoon, the situation had shifted. Records show he was released just before 2 p.m. after prosecutors with the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office decided the case would not move forward.
A spokesperson confirmed, “The case was declined due to insufficient evidence.”
After his release, Soulja Boy addressed the moment on Instagram with a brief message, posting “First day out” on a plain black screen.
For now, the dropped charge allows Soulja Boy to step away from another legal battle.
