South Carolina Woman Dies Of Heart Attack After Attempted Break-in

A North Myrtle Beach woman died after suffering a heart attack she suffered when a man attempted to break into her home back in July.

Austin Thomas Jones, 40, is facing a charge of involuntary manslaughter due to the woman’s death. Jones was taken into custody at his home on Wednesday and released on a $2,500 bond.

The woman called the police on July 24 to report an attempted break-in. When officers arrived, they determined that Jones had broken out the window to the residence.

When police detained Jones, they noticed he had blood on his knuckles and was found to possess a small amount of cocaine. It was also noted that he smelled of alcohol, and his eyes were red.

An officer noticed the woman was having trouble breathing and became unresponsive. Police called EMS the woman regained a pulse after CPR was administered. She was brought to an area hospital but died on July 28.

An autopsy report revealed the woman’s cardiac arrest stemmed from “a contributory condition of stress caused by the attempted home invasion.” Her death was ruled a homicide, and a warrant was issued for Jones’ arrest.
