Spanish Cannibal Sentenced To 15 Years For Killing And Eating His Mother

A Spanish man was sentenced to prison for murdering his mother and eating her over a two-week time period in the apartment they shared in Madrid.

CNN reports that Alberto Sanchez Gomez, 28, was sentenced to 15 years in prison for the murder charge and five months for desecration of a corpse. He will also have to pay his brother €60,000, equating to about $73,000 in compensation. 

The court rejected Gomez’s claims that he suffered a psychotic break while committing the murder. In April, he told the court that he heard voices telling him to kill Maria Soledad Gomez, 68, while watching television together in 2019, according to the New York Post.

Authorities discovered some of the victim’s remains in Tupperware boxes after she hadn’t been seen for a month. The Madrid prosecutor’s office told the outlet that Gomez strangled his mother after an argument. He then used a carpenter saw and two kitchen knives to cut up her body. 

Gomez also allegedly fed pieces of his mother’s remains to his dog. Gomez himself ate some of his mother’s body parts raw while cooking others.

The local media dubbed Gomez the “cannibal of Las Ventas” after the Madrid neighborhood area where he resided.
