On Thursday, Spelman College received a historic $100 million donation.
This $100 million gift represents the largest single donation ever received by any HBCU.
According to the press release, philanthropists Ronda Stryker and her husband, William Johnston, chairman of Greenleaf Trust, made history this week with their $100 million contribution to Spelman College. Their donation underscores Stryker’s commitment to empowering women and marginalized communities through education.
The press release further explained that $75 million of this historic $100 million gift will be allocated to endowed scholarships for future students, while the remaining $25 million will be used to develop an academic focus on public policy and democracy, improve student housing, and provide flexible funding to address critical strategic needs.
Spelman College, celebrating its 100th anniversary since its official naming in 1924, currently holds the top ranking among HBCUs according to U.S. News & World Report.
