After a seven-block game from Boston Celtics big man Luke Kornett to force a Game 6 behind a passionate Boston crowd, the New York Knicks are preparing for Game 6 at Madison Square Garden, hoping to advance to their first Eastern Conference Finals since the turn of the millennium.
After holding a 3-1 lead, the Knicks dropped Game 5 and gave Boston new life—enough to make superfans like film legend Spike Lee and ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith a little nervous.

New York, much like OKC, didn’t anticipate a breakout performance from a role player—especially one who used to wear a Knicks jersey. Kornett stepped up in a game where Boston was without Kristaps Porzingis and made his presence known in the fourth quarter.
Spike Lee joined Stephen A. Smith on First Take today to express his excitement for the game and shared his prediction, making it clear he doesn’t want to see a Game 7 in Boston.
“We’re going to win… I don’t want to go back to Boston for Game Seven,” Lee said. “Let’s just end it here tonight.”
Stephen A. Smith echoed the sentiment, noting how often the Knicks have broken New York fans’ hearts. He pushed back on ESPN insider Adrian Wojnarowski’s take that Knicks fans should just enjoy the moment—pointing out that fans have waited too long for this kind of opportunity.
Knicks fans, alongside Smith and Lee, are hoping Jalen Brunson and the squad can send the Celtics home tonight and punch their ticket to the Eastern Conference Finals for the first time since 2000.
