At Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport, a 25-year-old Spirit Airlines employee was detained after stealing items from passengers’ luggage.
The police report stated that Cush Karlson Joseph Vengeto was arrested for theft on January 18 while on the job.
According to authorities, Vengeto was already being investigated by Broward County and Spirit Airlines after accusations of “thefts of personal items from the interior of luggage which belonged to customers who flew on Spirit Airlines” became more common.
He is accused of stealing more than $750 but less than $5,000, a third-degree felony. Vengeto was released from Broward County Jail on January 19 on a $1,000 bond.
A second unidentified employee was also suspended without pay, but whether that employee has been arrested for theft is unclear.
