‘SpongeBob SquarePants’ Episode Pulled Over ‘Virus Storyline’

Nickelodeon announced on Tuesday that the Season 12 episode titled the “Kwarantine Krab” of SpongeBob SquarePants will no longer air due to its “virus storyline.”

The episode’s storyline focuses on a health inspector who discovers the “Clam Flu” at the Krusty Krab. Bikini Bottom residents are forced to quarantine inside the restaurant.

“The ‘Kwarantined Crab’ centers on a virus storyline, so we have decided to not air it due to sensitivities surrounding the global, real-world pandemic,” Nickelodeon said in a statement to Deadline.

“Kwarantine Krab” is the second SpongeBob episode to be taken out of rotation. Season 3 episode “Mid-Life Crustacean” first aired in 2003 and was initially pulled in 2018 after a standards review.

The episode features Mr. Krabs going through a mid-life going on a “panty raid” with SpongeBob and Patrick. The trio accidentally breaks into Mr. Krabs’ mother’s home to steal her underwear.

The episode was most recently pulled from streaming services Paramount+ and Amazon Prime.
