Spotify has announced the removal of AI-generated music created by Boomy from its platform. Additionally, the company is taking steps to ensure that any streams of this content are not a part of royalty calculations.
“Artificial streaming is a longstanding, industry-wide issue that Spotify is working to stamp out across our service,” a Spotify spokesperson said. “When the company identifies or is alerted to potential cases of stream manipulation. It works to “mitigate their impact by taking action that may include the removal of streaming numbers and the withholding of royalties.”
The spokesperson emphasized that this action enables them to safeguard royalty payouts for industrious artists. The removal came following an email from UMG, notifying streaming services that certain AI services have knowledge of copyrighted music “without obtaining consent.”
According to Forbes, Spotify removed approximately 7% of songs that apart of Boomy’s creation. However, Boomy says that they are already in the process of resubmitting tracks to the platform.
“The curated delivery to Spotify of new releases by Boomy artists has been re-enabled,” Boomy says. The company adds that “supporting artists and creators who use the Boomy platform is our top priority.”
Boomy facilitates users in crafting songs using artificial intelligence and sharing them on platforms like Apple Music or Spotify. As compensation, the company receives a percentage of the distribution fees. Thus far, the company asserts that it assists users in generating over 14 million songs utilizing artificial intelligence.
