Attorney Ben Crump was honored by St. Thomas University with a self-titled college.
On Friday, St. Thomas University held a ceremony to announce the renaming of its law school. The university decided to change the name of the Miami Gardens College to the Benjamin L. Crump College of Law.
“I want you all to know that I feel like I’m the most blessed man on the face of the earth today,” Crump said.
Throughout the years, Crump has been known as one of the top lawyers in the country representing many high-profiled cases. Most recently, Crump has been assisting the family of Tyre Nichols, who was severely beaten by Memphis police.
Nevertheless, Crump had many of his famous peers come out to the ceremony and congratulate him on a huge accomplishment.
Actor Will Smith was in attendance for the event and said, “Ben has been an absolute spectacular friend and guide. That’s why it was important for me to be here with him today.”
He added, “There are very, very few people in this world with a heart like this. So it is my deepest honor and my deepest pleasure to be here to support and to show some love and congratulations on this historic honor.”
In addition, TMZ reported music legend George Clinton and Bishop TD Jakes raised and estimated $10 million for the school that’ll be used to build a new facility.
Many of Crump’s clients were also present for the ceremony including George Floyd’s brother and Trayvon Martin’s mother.
“I just came to salute him,” Sabrina Fulton, Trayvon’s mom, said. “And to let him know that I’m proud of him for the work that he not only did for the Trayvon Martin Foundation, but that he did for so many other families.”
