Stanley, the iconic drinkware brand, is recalling 2.6 million travel mugs in the U.S. after receiving nearly 100 complaints of lids detaching, including reports of burn injuries requiring medical attention. The recall affects the Stanley Switchback and Trigger Action stainless steel travel mugs, sold in various sizes and colors.
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced the recall on Thursday, urging customers to stop using the affected mugs immediately and request a free replacement lid. According to the recall notice, the lids can loosen or detach when exposed to heat and torque, posing a risk of spilling hot liquids.
The company has received 91 complaints globally, with 16 from U.S. consumers, including two burn injuries. Worldwide, 38 burn injuries have been reported.
The recalled products include:
- Switchback 12-ounce mug (Product ID: 20-01437)
- Switchback 16-ounce mug (Product IDs: 20-01436, 20-02211)

The mugs, manufactured in China, were sold between June 2016 and December 2024 at retailers such as Walmart, Target, Dick’s Sporting Goods, Amazon, and others. Prices ranged from $20 to $50.
