Starbucks is issuing a public apology again, this time to police officers in Kiefer, Oklahoma after an officer bought Starbucks for 911 dispatchers working on Thanksgiving and found the word “PIG” printed on the cups’ labels.
According to The Boston Globe, the officer notified Kiefer police Chief Johnny O’Mara, who called the store and spoke to a manager. O’Mara said the store offered to reprint the computer-generated labels, but he took to social media and posted a photo instead. “The proverb ‘Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me’ came to mind,” he wrote online, attaching a photo of the mislabeled cup.
Starbucks representative Jory Mendes called the incident “totally unacceptable” and “not representative of the deep appreciation we have of officers who work to keep our communities safe” in a phone interview with The Post. “We are deeply sorry to the law enforcement officer who experienced this,” he said, adding that the company has spoken directly to the officer involved.
Starbucks has also launched an internal investigation and the employee has since been fired.
