If grabbing breakfast from Starbucks is a part of your daily routine, you may want to call ahead, as the company just announced it’s cutting a third of its menu.
During the company’s earnings call on January 28th, CEO Brian Niccol revealed a “roughly 30% reduction in both beverages and food.” While the company has yet to confirm which items will be cut, Niccol explained, “We have to clear the noise out both in food and beverage menus. That opens the door for better innovation that will hopefully resonate even more so for our customers.”
Niccol, who took over as chairman and CEO in September, emphasized a return to Starbucks’ core mission. “We’ve taken steps to refocus the business, our mission, and our marketing to better align with our identity as a coffee company,” he said in a Q1 FY2025 Earnings Video.
Despite a 4% drop in global store sales in Q1, Starbucks opened 377 new locations.
“While we have room for improvement, we’re making progress as planned, and have confidence we’re on the right track,” Niccol added.
Meanwhile, the company announced the return of free refills for in-store customers and the reintroduction of condiment bar staples like creamer, milk, and sweeteners.
Starbucks also recently updated its Coffeehouse Code of Conduct, requiring a purchase for bathroom access and banning alcohol, smoking, and vaping. “Our spaces — including our cafes, patios, and restrooms — are for use by customers and partners,” the company stated.
