Starz has officially ordered “Power: Origins,” a prequel series that will explore the early lives of James “Ghost” St. Patrick and Tommy Egan.
The upcoming chapter in the “Power” universe has received an 18-episode order and will center on how the two friends became major players in New York’s criminal underworld.
The project was first revealed in March 2024 and will serve as the fourth spinoff in the franchise, following “Power Book II: Ghost,” “Power Book III: Raising Kanan,” and “Power Book IV: Force.”
MeKai Curtis will return as Kanan Stark, continuing his role from “Raising Kanan.” Casting for the younger versions of Ghost and Tommy has not yet been announced.
Starz described the first season as a “fun, rambunctious exploration” that will dive into a different era in the “Power” timeline. The network says it will spotlight “the unbridled audacity of young men on the rise, determined to become legends in the game.”
Kathryn Busby, president of original programming at Starz, acknowledged the long-standing demand for this story.
“Our fans have been asking for Ghost and Tommy’s origins story since we first met them in ‘Power’ — and with the launch of this series, we’re delivering in a big way,” she said. “This marks an electrifying new chapter in the franchise’s evolution as we dive deep into the legacy of these iconic characters and the explosive moments that shaped their path.”
The prequel is produced by Lionsgate Television. Courtney A. Kemp, the original creator of “Power,” co-wrote the pilot and will executive produce through her company, End of Episode.
Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson is also an executive producer through G-Unit Film and Television, alongside Mark Canton for Canton Entertainment. Chris Selak and Pete Chatmon are also attached to the project as executive producers.
With “Raising Kanan” ending after its fifth season and “Force” wrapping up in the fall, “Power: Origins” will usher in a new direction for the franchise by turning back the clock and focusing on the foundation of its original characters.
